Peddle My Wheels set up and run a number of initiatives in partnership with local councils that are designed to get more Londoners cycling.
These include the second-hand bike markets that enable locals people to bring their unwanted bikes to us so we can service and sell them on their behalf, in the process creating affordable bike stock for others in their community.
Our other main scheme is called Try Before You Bike. This scheme allows people to try out a bike for a small monthly fee. We support the person with free cycle training if they want it and free maintenance during the trial period. If the participant wants to buy the bike they get their trial fees refunded and can buy the bike at a discount price. If cycling is not for them they just book a collection. Some people just continue to hire the bike on a monthly subscription as they like the flexibility that gives them.
Other projects that were launched in 2021 include the OurBike community cargo bike share scheme. This allows local people to hire an electric cargo bike by the hour (think Zip cars but for cargo bikes) using the OurBike app which can reserve the bike and then unlock and lock the bike.
The new bike repair service covers adult and kids bikes, e-bikes, folding bikes, tricycles and cargo bikes. You can bring bikes to their warehouse space or arrange a home collection. For more details on bike servicing, click here.
