We’re supporting our member businesses to become more environmentally friendly as it is better for business and better for the planet. Customers increasingly demand greener products and services, and addressing climate change in whichever ways possible is vital for all of our futures.
Station to Station BID has been awarded funding from the Mayor’s Business Climate Challenge fund to help local businesses cut energy costs and their carbon footprint. We promote a range of sustainable services and guidance; from Lambeth Gold subsidised recycling service, the Too Good To Go food waste app and group procurement initiatives that include green energy suppliers.
We use this ‘green tag’ in our Business Directory to highlight businesses who are offering products and services that support the recycling, reusing or reduction of materials – as well as cutting pollution through sustainable energy sources and transport.
These businesses are on the path to Net Zero by using at least two of the services we have identified above.
For example:
Platinum Bakery are reducing food waste using the very popular Too Good To Go app and are also signed up to our subsidised recycling service.
Volcano Coffee Works have installed the latest carbon emission reducing equipment to roast their coffee, use a cargo bike delivery service for their distribution, are moving their supplier purchasing to carbon neutral companies, their coffee pods are fully compostable and they reward customers who choose Alt Milk because these milks generate 3.5 times less carbon than cows milk in production.
Alongside supporting businesses to access sustainable services, we are committed to improving the physical environment of the Station to Station business improvement district by:
- increasing attractive planting schemes that absorb pollution and rain water whilst supporting bees and other pollinating insects
- encouraging less polluting travel including the introduction of a shared electric vehicle for businesses to use (coming soon!)
- supporting walking and cycling schemes
